November 2017 Improvements to Produce Inventory Control System (PICS) Software

Improving PICS Software for the Fresh Produce Industry

fresh fruit and vegetablesWe’re always on the lookout for improvements we can make to PICS that will make business processes easier for companies in the perishable (fresh) fruit and vegetable industry. The NEW PICS 3.0 project is progressing well. We are on track for release in Spring 2018. Here are the software updates we made during November:

  • Added code to the Purchase Order screen such that when you add lines, if there is a vendor stock record for the item being purchased, and if that vendor stock item has a default label, that label will be put onto the PO line. Note that the vendor stock label takes precedence over the default vendor label.
  • Added code to the Purchase Order screen such that when you add lines, if there is a vendor stock record for the item being purchased, and if that vendor stock item has a default qty on storage unit, that qty will be put onto the PO line. Note that the vendor stock default qty on storage unit takes precedence over the default stock qty on storage unit.
  • Added code to the Purchase Order screen such that when you add lines, if there is a vendor stock record for the item being purchased, the last price paid and last date bought will be displayed on the line.
  • Added total qty ordered and total qty received in tracked units to the bottom of the Purchase Order screen.
  • Added the ability to have the Purchase Order (PO) screen prompt users to send Purchase Orders via EmFx when the PO is saved after adding or editing it (in the same way that Sales Order confirmations can be done from the Sales Order screen). There is a new system control “Send Purchase Order Automatically” which should be set to “Y” to cause this to happen.
  • Added a new (optional) lot allocation program which will search for lots with enough quantity to fulfill quantity ordered, and then, if none are found, use the original FIFO method to allocate.
  • Added code to the Sales Order screen to load the price source and price overridden flag into the order line table. When PICS supplies a price for a sales order line, it will be loaded into the price source field. If the user changes that price, the price overridden flag will be checked. Price sources can be: ST – stock item; CP – cust-product; CU – cust stk unit; LT – lot; FP – Future Price; MA – Manual – Unknown.
  • Added columns to the Outbound Load screen for the printed flags for sales orders (SP) and picking slips (PP). This allows the user to easily see what has/has not been printed.
