Regulatory requirements and the increasing need to trace and track fruits and vegetables through the supply chain have resulted in strong industry attention to traceability. At the core is the need for accurate and timely identification of fruits and vegetables, their origin, location within the supply chain and the ability to execute an efficient recall. For government agencies, the focus is primarily on food safety but industry drivers are much broader including supply chain logistics, quality and identity preservation.<\/p>\n

Various efforts around produce traceability have produced documents, resources and a standard to assist industry in implementation.<\/p>\n
