\"cfia<\/a>The Government of Canada published the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations<\/a> on June 13. The Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA) has announced that they will be reviewing the regulations to see how they differ from the January 2018 \u201cdraft\u201d release as well as assessing the new regulations against the comments CPMA had submitted, and will keep CPMA members updated as this review takes place. CPMA will also be creating a Produce Guidance document for members to help them navigate the new regulations. In the meantime there are a couple of important points to keep in mind:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The publication date (June 13, 2018) is not<\/strong> the coming into force date. The regulation comes into force in January 2019.<\/li>\n
  2. After January 2019, there are staggered coming into force dates for various sections of the regulations and we will develop a timeline to share with members related to these.<\/li>\n
  3. In situations where a regulation states \u201cimmediate\u201d, it is only applicable if the particular section of the regulation existed in previous legislation. This will primarily affect the areas of the food industry which are currently registered (i.e. meat, seafood, dairy, etc.)<\/li>\n
  4. A number of items (i.e. Licensing) cannot be implemented until CFIA puts the administrative systems in place to manage these requirements. We will update members as the timelines for these are announced.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    CPMA recommends that members register on the My CFIA<\/a> website as soon as possible. This will be the portal used by businesses to access the CFIA services and licenses. More information will follow.<\/p>\n
