This rule is effective <strong>January 20, 2023<\/strong>. For the applicable compliance dates, see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2022\/11\/21\/2022-24417\/requirements-for-additional-traceability-records-for-certain-foods?mc_cid=00e0e74958&amp;mc_eid=9d4db0abc1\">Section VI \u201cEffective and Compliance Dates\u201d in the SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION<\/a> section of the linked document.<\/p>\n<p>The Food Traceability Final Rule is designed to facilitate faster identification and rapid removal of potentially contaminated food from the market, resulting in fewer food-borne illnesses and associated deaths.<\/p>\n<p>The final rule is based on a proposal that FDA developed in 2020 for foods that have, in the past, been associated with outbreaks. Foods subject to the final rule requirements appear on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/food\/food-safety-modernization-act-fsma\/food-traceability-list?mc_cid=00e0e74958&amp;mc_eid=9d4db0abc1\">Food Traceability List<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/producetraceability.org\/?mc_cid=00e0e74958&amp;mc_eid=9d4db0abc1\">Produce Traceability Initiative<\/a> leadership council and committees, along with the sponsoring associations, will consider the implications of the Rule to fresh produce.
