If you are considering running a produce traceability system, such as WaudWare’s Produce Inventory Control System (PICS) software – or any software in the cloud – keep in mind the most often overlooked but critically important detail. We refer to it as “the weakest link in the chain”:
your connection to the internet
Software can be installed on rock solid, bullet proof servers, redundantly spread around the world, with generator back ups, ultra high speed network connections, powerful CPUs, virtually unlimited memory, etc.. but if your business is connected to the internet by a single low end internet connection, all the other features are irrelevant.
During the planning part of your project to successfully run software in the cloud, provision for:
- a minimum of two redundant industrial grade internet connections with routers that automatically fail over
- IT people who know how to support it
Above all else, don’t assume that every cloud provider has everything you need. There are unscrupulous cloud providers out there. Buyer beware.
