The OPMA distributed a Member Notice yesterday we thought we’d share:
“The new Safe Food for Canadians Act was passed last year. Before the Act is brought into force, the CFIA will be reviewing all existing regulations that were made under the Acts that this one will eventually replace.
Consultation on new regulations has now begun with industry and you are urged to provide your feedback. CFIA’s goal is for new regulations to be in place January 1st, 2015.
There are four areas open for consultation:
Comments needed by August 30th –
- FOOD LABELLING MODERNIZATION (although written comments must be submitted online by August 30th, CFIA will continue to accept comments throughout the fall)
Comments needed by November 30th –
- COMPLIANCE PROMOTION
- REGULATORY FRAMEWORK FOR FEDERAL FOOD INSPECTION
- OUTCOME-BASED REGULATORY MODERNIZATION
Further information is available on the Consultation Main Page.
The OPMA will be reviewing many of the proposals and providing comments. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Ian MacKenzie at 416-259-7827, ext. 231 or ian@theopma.ca.”
