No business, regardless of size, can afford to make mistakes – especially when it comes to acquiring new software that handles buying, selling, inventory, accounting, security, management information, AND complete traceability. Your most valuable resource, your people, need software that’s specific to the fresh (perishable) produce industry, user-friendly, easy to use, and fully supported.
Enter: Produce Inventory Control System (PICS) software by WaudWare. Say yes to PICS!
Our commitment to continuous improvement makes PICS the wise choice. Ready for a PICS software demo? So are we! Set up a time with General Manager, F. Charles Waud and see how PICS can make your life a whole lot easier, streamline your workflow, and produce the results you’re looking for! In the meantime, here are the improvements we made to PICS in October:
Software Solutions from the Experts in Innovation
- Added a new system control “Barcode Scanning/Allow Barcode Scanning Receive All” to control whether Receive All is allowed. In PICS 3.0, if this is set to Y (default is Y), when a barcode is scanned to start the receiving of a purchase order, PICS will ask if the user wants to Receive All. If you do not want users to be able to do this (either system wide or specific ones), set the control to N.
- Added 2 new fields to the stock items table and Production screen (the one which comes forward from the stock items screen). They are plastic weight and report on plastic weight. In Canada, the Government has mandated that companies who pack produce using plastic containers report on the weight of plastic in the products they pack/sell. These 2 fields let you specify the weight of the plastic in a package, and flag the items to be reported on (there are exemptions for private label products). Once you fill these fields you can use a PRE report to calculate the total.
- Added Notes to the contacts screen in PICS 3.0
- Added a new Inventory/Run Update Stock After Count Update system control. If this is set to Y (default is Yes), when the update is run at the end of the inventory count process, PICS will run the Update Stock routine. Since this routine is run automatically every night, we do not think it needs to be run after the count update. However, some of our customers want it to run, so they can use this system control to enable it.
- Changed the way PICS works with the activity log and audit log tables. These tables are probably the most used ones in the system, getting hundreds of records (or more) added daily. Every once in a while, we believe that Windows is not able to keep up with the volume of records being added, and the locking and unlocking which is supposed to happen fails. Therefore, what we’ve done for these 2 tables is adjust the code such that we now only attempt to lock the record once. If that lock is successful, the record will be written. It the lock is unsuccessful, PICS will silently (i.e. the user won’t see anything) log the issue in the error log. We think this is a good work around because it is really bad for everyone when the whole system locks up because a record can’t be written to one of these tables. While these records are important, they are not as important as having the system continue working for everyone all the time.
- Added an Administration/Hide old style contact info system control. When the next build is installed, PICS will check if any customers or vendors have the contact1, contact2 or email fields filled, and none do, this system control will be set to Y. We plan to get rid of these fields, because the contacts table has replaced them. Note that system administrators can choose to set this system control themselves if desired.
