Helping Hands

In lieu of seasonal cards and gifts this year, we continue to donate and deliver fruits and vegetables through our Helping Hands Initiative (launched in 2020), in partnership with Ralph Pitt Produce in Walkerton. Every other month, fruits and vegetables are delivered to the Owen Sound Salvation Army, who distribute and share food with other regional Food Banks.

The Gift That Keeps On Giving

The money we raised from WaudWare Golf Tournaments is still part of the Brampton and Caledon Community Foundation account. The interest earned provides scholarships to Sheridan College students and provides funds to the Salvation Army (Honeychurch) in Brampton.

From our families to yours…
have a wonderful holiday season!

Update on Bill C-280

As you may be aware, Bill C-280 is currently under consideration in the Canadian Senate. Recently, there were amendments put forth by the Senate Standing Committee on Banking, Commerce and the Economy. CPMA has noted these amendments “would seriously undermine the fundamental objectives of the Bill…The proposed amendments to Bill C-280 would effectively limit access to protection to the first level of sale, which goes against the legislation’s aim to promote fair trade practices and enhance market stability across the fresh produce supply chain.”

The OPMA has supported making changes to Bill C-180 through our Government Relations Committee, and, along with 34 other national and regional associations, signed a joint letter that was sent to all Senators earlier this month.

On behalf of all supporters to this bill, the OPMA is asking that you let the Senators know it is important to vote in favour of the original legislation. To do this you can visit protectproducesales.ca (a website created by the Fresh Produce Alliance) for resources to help you in contacting your Senators. The OPMA will continue to keep you apprised of any further news regarding the passage of this legislation.
