The CPMA and the Fruit and Vegetable Growers of Canada (FVGC) are preparing for their annual Fall Harvest advocacy event on Parliament Hill! [Source: CPMA Member Bulletin September 19, 2023]
“From November 20–22, 2023, CPMA and FVGC will hold their annual Fall Harvest advocacy event in Ottawa. Fall Harvest 2023 will provide our members with the opportunity to meet with key officials, attend an evening reception, and hear featured guest speakers.
Our meetings are proven to work. Our recent advocacy efforts in Ottawa have created change in the following areas:
- After extensive engagement with Parliamentarians, Bill C-280, the Financial Protection for Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Farmers Act, was unanimously passed in its initial stages in the House of Commons, with all political parties continuing to express their support for establishing a financial protection mechanism for Canadian produce sellers
- The report from the National Supply Chain Task Force reflected our recommendations to address ongoing supply chain disruptions, with further government action on a National Supply Chain Strategy announced in Budget 2023
- Measures to increase access to temporary foreign workers post farm gate have been extended and a Recognized Employer pilot has been launched
- Several of our recommendations have been included in reports of the House of Commons Standing Committees, including the Finance and Agriculture and Agri-food Committees, and have been reflected in federal budgets.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Ottawa to take advantage of the opportunity to meet with Parliamentarians. If you have any questions about Fall Harvest 2023, please do not hesitate to reach out to Shannon Sommerauer at CPMA (ssommerauer@cpma.ca) or Angela Reid at FVGC (areid@fvgc.ca).”
