Employment Standards Changes

ontario ministry of labour logoA number of new and anticipated changes to employment standards and labour relations under the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017 will ensure fairness and opportunity in Ontario workplaces.

Changes include:

  • minimum wage increases
  • equal pay for equal work provisions
  • termination
  • scheduling
  • overtime pay
  • paid vacation leaves
  • union certification, and more.

In support of the changes, the province has launched an Employment Standards Training and Education Program to educate both employees and small and medium-sized businesses. cap logoCanadian Agricultural Partnership Program Announced

The new Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) program, a 5-year, $1.5-billion federal-provincial-territorial initiative, provides Ontario producers, processors and industry partners with access to cost-share funding. Building on the success of Growing Forward 2, the program provides opportunity for the industry to collaborate on economic growth opportunities for Ontario’s agri-food sector and agri-products sectors. Application intake opened April 1, 2018: visit www.ontario.ca/agpartnership.

New Federal Agricultural Business Funding Programs
Ontario producers and processors will be able to apply to six new federally-funded programs under the federal-provincial-territorial Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP). These programs will directly benefit producers and processors, and address priorities identified by the agricultural sector:

  • growing trade and expanding existing markets
  • supporting innovation and sustainable growth
  • increasing diversity and the dynamic nature of the sector
