CPMA Attends NAFTA Round 6 in Montreal

cpma logoCPMA met with a number of key government stakeholders during the sixth round of NAFTA negotiations last week and are pleased to report that progress is being made on a number of chapters. These include the sanitary and phytosanitary chapter as well as the agriculture chapter and specific provisions relating to biotechnology. We have been working closely with Canadian negotiators and partners in NAFTA countries to advance the industry’s interests and ensure that our integrated supply chains remain protected. Further work is being done on the seasonality provision introduced by the United States, a key concern for much of industry. We will continue to engage in negotiations and communicate any advancements with members.

CPTPP Deal Reached

On January 23rd, 2018, the Government of Canada announced its intention to sign the new Comprehensive and Progress Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in March of this year. We are pleased with this development as it will increase market access to key emerging economies in the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan. Additional information on the specifics of this agreement are forthcoming.
